Travel Health At Lane End Surgery

ü      Our practice nurses provide travel health consultations. A 20 minute consultation is required for all patients in need of travel advice, unless you are travelling to several world-wide destinations, when a 30 minute appointment may be required. If you are unsure please ask our reception staff for advice.

ü      Patients are advised to attend 6 - 8 weeks prior to travel to ensure optimum travel heath cover.

ü      Patients are asked to complete a pre-travel risk assessment form before they are seen. These forms are available from our reception desk.

ü     We use TRAVAX, the travel health information website for NHS health professionals, to      access up to date world-wide travel health requirements.

ü      We can give the following routine travel vaccinations:

- Hepatitis A

- Hepatitis B

- Diphtheria / Tetanus / Polio

- Typhoid

ü      Patients travelling to exotic destinations and high risk countries requiring non-routine immunisations (e.g. Yellow Fever / Rabies / Japanese B Encephalitis / Meningitis ACWY) are referred to the MASTA clinic, Claremont Road, Newcastle.

ü      We provide up-to-date information on Malaria and anti-malarial medication as well as advice on mosquito precautions.

ü      The practice charges a £15.00 private prescription charge for anti-malarial medication. This medication will need to be purchased from a pharmacy.

ü      A prescription is not necessary for Chloroquine Plus Proguanil anti-malarial medication. This can be purchased at a pharmacy.
