Travel Health At Lane End Surgery
ü Our practice nurses provide travel health consultations. A 20 minute consultation is required for all patients in need of travel advice, unless you are travelling to several world-wide destinations, when a 30 minute appointment may be required. If you are unsure please ask our reception staff for advice. ü Patients are advised to attend 6 - 8 weeks prior to travel to ensure optimum travel heath cover. ü Patients are asked to complete a pre-travel risk assessment form before they are seen. These forms are available from our reception desk. ü We use TRAVAX, the travel health information website for NHS health professionals, to access up to date world-wide travel health requirements. ü We can give the following routine travel vaccinations: - Hepatitis A - Hepatitis B - Diphtheria / Tetanus / Polio - Typhoid ü Patients travelling to exotic destinations and high risk countries requiring non-routine immunisations (e.g. Yellow Fever / Rabies / Japanese B Encephalitis / Meningitis ACWY) are referred to the MASTA clinic, Claremont Road, Newcastle. ü We provide up-to-date information on Malaria and anti-malarial medication as well as advice on mosquito precautions. ü The practice charges a £15.00 private prescription charge for anti-malarial medication. This medication will need to be purchased from a pharmacy. ü A prescription is not necessary for Chloroquine Plus Proguanil anti-malarial medication. This can be purchased at a pharmacy.
